n October 2016, the classic lineup of DOKKEN — Don Dokken (vocals), George Lynch(guitar), Jeff Pilson (bass) and Mick Brown (drums) — reunited to play the Loud Park festival in Japan. Fortunately for fans outside of Japan, cameras were there to capture the performance and now Frontiers Music Srl is set to issue "Return To The East Live 2016" on April 20. In addition to the Japanese performance, this set will feature footage from the classic lineup's only U.S. show in September 2016 at Badlands in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Don recently told the "The Classic Metal Show" that he didn't know "why it took a freaking year" to complete the DVD. He said: "We had almost two hours of just backstage, goofing around, on the train, going to Osaka, Nagoya, on the train, having fun backstage, screwing around. That took forever to edit. So on the new live DVD, there's gonna a lot of bonus footage — a lot of just candid, messing around, having fun. 'Cause, you know, George and Jeff hadn't been in DOKKEN for over 20 years."


As for the musical direction of the new song, Don said that it is "very DOKKEN-sounding" and "very classic '80s" with "big harmonies. It's just like 'Paris Is Burning' meets 'In My Dreams'," he said. The track is the first new song to be recorded by the classic DOKKEN lineup since the 1997 "Shadowlife" album.


Don also talked about his current relationship with George and Jeff, both of whom he had previously traded verbal barbs with in the press. "I would say that I had some trepidation [about playing with them again], obviously," Dokken said. "We've been getting offers for years and years and years to do a reunion, quote-unquote, tour, and I said, 'Guys, I'm not interested. DOKKEN, to me, is Chris McCarvill, 'Wild' Mick Brown and Jon Levin, who's been in the band for 22 years. That's DOKKEN.' I don't see why I need to go back in time and do this. What's the point? If it's just for money, they know how I feel about that. And there's more to life than money. You can live in a mansion and drive a Ferrari and be miserable. And I said, 'I'm not interested.' So I had some trepidation. We only rehearsed with Jeff and George for three days when we did the South Dakota one show only in America, where we filmed. But they showed up, we rehearsed, went to Japan, we filmed the show, we did these huge arenas, sold out. And it was great. George and I shot the shit for hours and hours every day over sake and beer on the bullet trains and we talked about everything from politics to spirituality and it was all good. And Jeff is such an addict, he's almost maybe worse than me when it comes to music. I mean, every day, Jeff's on the bullet train looking at the footage from the night before and he's looking at this, he's looking at that. 'Check this out. How about that? This is a good shot.' He's mixing the songs, he's trying to figure out what's the best takes. So it was a band effort. That was nice."


In January, DOKKEN filmed a video for "It's Just Another Day" with director Jamie Brown, who has previously worked with LYNCH MOB and KXM.

On March 23rd, Thunder will release the brand new live set, Stage, via earMUSIC. A video for "Backstreet Symphony" from the release is available for streaming below.

Thunder are, of course, a noted and globally in-demand live act.

Stage was captured at Cardiff Motorpoint Arena on March 24th, 2017 during the UK Tour; the band also played Europe, North America, and Asia, across Germany with Alice Cooper, at Planet Rock's Rockstock, and are preparing to fly to Japan for some January 2018 dates. This is a band that knows how to rock a crowd.


Frontman Danny Bowes says, "The Rip It Up album was so well-received - it was no surprise the tour was brilliant, too. We decided to include a Cardiff Motorpoint Arena show on the tour, purely because it was so good when we played there with Journey and Whitesnake in 2013. Capturing it as well turned out to be one of our better decisions, because the resulting film and album are a shining example of an organic 'coming together' of fans and a band. We've released a few live recordings over the years, but this is most definitely up there with the best of them. We're extremely pleased with it."

TESLA has set "Shock" as the title of its ninth full-length album, tentatively due in the fall. The long-awaited follow-up to 2014's "Simplicity" was helmed by DEF LEPPARD guitarist Phil Collen, who co-wrote and produced the TESLA song "Save That Goodness", which was released in August 2016 and included on the "Mechanical Resonance Live!" album.


When asked in an interview with "Rock Talk With Mitch Lafon" why TESLA decided to bring in an outside producer this time around, guitarist Frank Hannon said: "Phil had a great amount of energy and compassion for the band, and when he showed us that he had that for us, we wanted to give it a shot. And it's the first time that we've ever made a record where we've let someone come in and co-write the songs and really teach us some new things. 'Cause we're pretty hard-headed, so to have a guy with his experience, who's worked with [Robert John] 'Mutt' Lange, who has produced these really killer albums, we decided, 'Let's give it a shot and see how it comes out. And it's something new that we're gonna learn.' And so it was great."


Hannon also talked about what inspires TESLA to keep making fresh music at a time when so many of the rock fans are seemingly not interested in new albums from their favorite bands and just want them to remain in the past and be nostalgia acts. "Well, each guy in the band has their own different motivations," Frank said. "Me, I'm always motivated to keep learning and keep trying new things. But, again, on this album, I would say it was Phil Collen who got the band as a group motivated to try some new stuff and to learn some new recording techniques and new ways to write songs. So Phil Collen has motivated TESLA at this point. Like I said, for me, I'm motivated by learning and trying new stuff, and that's what my solo albums are for."


TESLA singer Jeff Keith told The Salt Lake Tribune last year that Collen encouraged the Sacramento-based band to adopt a slightly different recording approach.


"With Phil, we'd come in on a given day, work on maybe the bridge on a particular song, work on the chorus on this song, and then work on a verse — all in one day, all on different songs," Keith said. "That was really fun and exciting, 'cause you could put the ideas down, take 'em home, chew on 'em for a couple days… It was really fun doing it in that way, and it's the first time we've ever really done it like that."


TESLA's most recent release, "Mechanical Resonance Live!", was made available in 2016 via Tesla Electric Company Recordings/Mailboat. The effort celebrated the 30th birthday of the original multi-platinum album and featured classic hits as well as the aforementioned "Save That Goodness" single.
TESLA will support STYX and JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS on a summer U.S. tour that kicks off May 30 in Irvine, California at the FivePoint Amphitheatre


TESLA's current lineup includes four of the five original members: Keith, Hannon, Brian Wheat (bass) and Troy Luccketta (drums). Dave Rude (guitar) joined in 2006 as the replacement for Tommy Skeoch.

Ten years ago, Judas Priest guitarist Glenn Tipton was diagnosed to have the onset of the early stages of Parkinson’s - from then until recently Glenn has lived his life as the great heavy metal guitar player he has always been, maintaining by his own definition a standard of quality and performance that is incredibly important


Right now, Glenn is able to play and perform some of the Priest songs that are less challenging, but due to the nature of Parkinson's progression he wants to let you all know that he won't be touring as such.
True to the metal spirit of 'the show must go on,' Glenn has requested Andy Sneap to fly the flag on stage for him.


Says Glenn - “I want everyone to know that it’s vital that the Judas Priest tour go ahead and that I am not leaving the band - it’s simply that my role has changed. I don’t rule out the chance to go on stage as and when I feel able to blast out some Priest! So at some point in the not too distant future I’m really looking forward to seeing all of our wonderful metal maniacs once again”

Stryper have released a visualizer for "Take It To The Cross", the opening track of the band's upcoming God Damn Evil album.

PAT TORPEY, FOUNDING MEMBER OF MR.BIG, DIES AT 58 
 
Drummer and founding member of MR. BIG, Pat Torpey, passed away Wednesday, February 7 at the age of 58 from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Family, band and management request privacy at this very difficult time. Services are pending.
 
MR. BIG (Torpey, Eric Martin, Billy Sheehan, and Paul Gilbert) released their ninth original studio album, DEFYING GRAVITY, July 21. 
 
MR. BIG, formed in 1988, produced numerous hit songs that ranged across a wide array of rock genres – be it ballads, heavy metal, or blues rock. Their hits included “Alive and Kicking,” "Just Take My Heart" and the chart-topping ballad, "To Be With You" (Billboard Hot 100 #1 single in 15 countries for weeks in 1991, propelling the band the band to huge international success and multi-Platinum record sales).
